Indian Musk Shrew (Suncus murinus)

Common Indian Musk Shrews, so called because the Males of the species have a scent gland which releases a strong Musky odor which may be offensive to many people. They are nocturnal and has poor eye sight compensated by good sense of smell and hearing. Small in size but very irritable when handled and can deliver vicious bites. Known to feed mainly on insects, they are helpful to keep the pest population under control.
